Wii!!!

Yesterday the Wii was launched and my BF was able to get one on Gamestop at midnight along with a copy of Ultimate Alliance because Zelda was not available due to poor shipping on Nintendo’s part, but hopefully we will be able to get a copy on Thursday. The only thing I have to say about the Wii is **WOW**. The WiiMote is awesome and surprisingly easy to master and games like Wii Sports are very addictive because of it.

Nintendo got it right this time around and hopefully the Wii will be a success with original and engaging games. The only drawback I see is the way you make “friends”, you need to get a code from your friend in advance, then input it on your Wii console while he does the same, if one fails to input the code of the other there is no notification system to tell the other person that one is waiting for “approval”. But the good thing about this generation of consoles is that they are updateable via the internet, so that will hopefully be fixed soon.

Now with all three consoles out things should get interesting, there are two battle fronts on this console war, one is already won by Nintendo by having a console that is fun to play and dedicated to the “casual” gamer and curious person watching you play. The Wiimote takes gaming to new levels thing that makes the Wii a “Next Generation” console even tough the graphics lag WAY behind compared to an Xbox or PS3.

Media Content

The other battle fronts are on the Graphic Muscle, Media Content and Online Gaming arena. Here I thing the Xbox 360 excels, of course, I am biased on this because I own a 360 BUT the key card the 360 has and PS3 doesn’t is Windows Media Center. The only way to watch a program on the PS3, as far as I know, is to buy it from Sony (unless it is a DVD or a memory card) but with the Xbox you can use the Media Center Extender function and watch everything you have on your computer, and by the way, you can also do that if you have Media Player 11 in the case you don’t have a Media Center PC. If the PS3 can run Linux like some people claim Sony should make an application that runs MythTV remotely so it can compete one to one with the XBox on that area. Now, on the graphics area is too early to tell is Sony can deliver a better experience than the Xbox, we need to wait a few months until the AAA games comes out.

Online Gaming

Here the Xbox wins hands down, sure, you need to pay $50 a year to be able to play online, but you get what you pay for, mostly every 360 game has some way of online play that enhances the game experience. If you want to know what I am talking about get a copy of Gears of Wars, the online play there is like a whole new game that extends the gameplay life beyond the 8 to 10 hours of the story line. The system Wii has for online connectivity and play is a joke because you need to get friends first and then you will be able to play, or at last that is the way it appears it’s going to be. The PS3 on the other hand uses the same System the PS2 used, the game makers will host their game servers and like it happened on the PS2, some of them will want you to pay if you want to play.

The outcome of this fierce competition is that no matter what console you choose to buy it will be assured that you will have a lot of fun with it.

Ah, BTW, if you want my Wii Number, here it is, but remember to put yours on the comment area so I can add you!!
